Relief Society Campout

A camp out is never complete without a bonfire, food and lots of good times.
But first I want to start with my 2nd councilor over activities. Sherilynn Dickson Woodson, she is fantastic and I love all that she does with our activities. She is great and always dependable. I just love the young woman and all her talents. She works with our committees and makes sure we have spiritually inspiring, enriching, fun activities. She is with her little side kick who is always full of smiles.

This is Janice Dickson Stuer, she is Sherilynn's sister and a real joy to have included in our activites. I think she should move back to our ward.

Camp outs always need to start off with some good food and we started off with a pot luck supper. I was all prepared to see that our sisters would have a really nice and relaxing time at our camp out. I had arrived early that afternoon and began cleaning tables, laying out plastic table cloths, wish I would have brought our tin flower pots for table decoration (and hold down the cloths from the wind, used rocks instead) and sweeping the cement floor here. The park missionaries said they knew this was a Relief Society camp out because no one else would be trying to beautify the area like we did.

There were about 40 of us at one time. Arlington 2nd, my ward, was the host ward to Arlington 1st and 3rd. The year before 1st and 2nd were split to make 3rd so it was lots of fun to get us all together again. I wish i would have taken a picture of the circling of the wagons. That is statement is not quite true for we didn't circle but we had more RV's there than we did tents. What can I say we are creatures of comfort.

With being three wards and a year of changing be decided to start the evening off with a get to know you Bingo game. We first went around with our bingo cards getting names of people that we did not know to place in the squares. As names were called we then asked a question such as, "Name the three most important things that have happened in your life? What is your most embarrassing moment? What is your favorite movie? Who is your favorite actor or actress?" With a why after each question. This was lots of fun because even if you knew someone you usually learned something new about them.

Of course at a campfire you always need to have a sing along time and Mary Leveque lead is on. This one is always fun and everyone likes to get into it and if you don't it is fun to watch and laugh with them. I don't remember the name of it but just a couple of lines....Thumbs up, elbows back, knees together, tongue out. After the fun we then had a few inspirational songs to lead into our guest speaker with her inspirational thoughts.

Our thoughts that evening came from Angela Gaskin, another one of those wonderful women who have touched my life. She was my 2nd councilor before the ward split and she went into the newly created 3rd ward. She is a gem, thanks Angela for bringing inspiring thoughts of how we quietly go about sustaining, supporting and giving new ideas to our sisters around us.

Afterwards we all headed off to our own wagons(RVs) or tents for a good nights sleep. Well, there is always that one wagon/tent who stays up all night. So, the night owls stayed in the same RV my secretary, Debbie Chase's RV. She is another person I could not do without. She keeps me organized and going. Helps me keep track of me. She has been a life time friend, her children and mine grew up together and she stayed by me during all my trails serving on the school board and loosing the last bit of hearing I had all those years ago. Now back to the all niter. We stayed up playing the game Golf. Didn't turn in until 4AM and I guess that is not something to do when you are the host of the camp. I just figured that Sherilynn and the Chairman of our committee would handle things that morning. It was 7:30 AM and they came knocking on the door. Even Bishop hassled me the next day at church about sleeping in. Guess next year I'll either make sure I pull all the way through the night or try going to bed earlier.
After everyone had breakfast, they began to pack up and leave. Then there again there is the last one out. I seem to always take that position when I'm in charge. Dear Debbie and I stayed several more hours after the slow drizzle started and some game playing and finally pulled out at 2PM.
What a wonderful time already looking forward to next year.
